When I start coaching someone, I often kick things off with this question: “Who are you?”
And you know what? Every single time, the person comes back with something like…
“I am a project leader at xxx”
“I am the Finance Director for abc business”
“I am an Innovation leader”
“I am the founder of this company”
“I am a former CMO at zzz”
Sounds pretty much like a LinkedIn profile in conversation form!
Then, I like to dig a bit deeper:
“Sure, that’s your title, you’ve earned it for doing stuff. But who are YOU, [First Name] [Last Name]? What is the essence behind the name that has been given to you at birth, before you accomplished anything?”
In a world that’s all about slapping labels on people, I want to remind you that you’re way more than just a job title or a social status. Even those roles you play in your personal life barely scratch the surface of who you really are.
And the more you tie your whole identity to those labels, the more you’re holding yourself back.
Here is sneak peek of my own “I AM” manifesto.
“I, Delphine, am the Unicorn. I spread my colorful energy to the world. I live in a rainbow. I create the sun. I create the rain. I belong to Nature. This is where I bloom and expand …”
How about YOU … WHO ARE YOU?
Be brave. Own who you are. Fully.
Love,
Delphine
