She tells me she is exhausted and she does not know why. She likes her job, her team is great, her family life is great too. But by 6pm she has nothing left.
So I give her this assignment: for one week, write down every small decision she makes in her life, at home, at work, anything. Not the big “strategic” stuff. The little ones.
She comes back with 4 pages.
“Answer this message now or later?”, “Cook or order in?”, “Gym or skip?”, “This invitation : Yes or No ?”, “Kids : one more story or lights out ?”, “What do I wear today?” … and on and on. Several times a day.
“Which of these is actually hard?”, I ask.
She laughs : “None of them, I just keep making them.”
2 weeks later she tells me she has created her personal lab, and she is experimenting in it. (I LOVE IT!)
- She leaves the office by 6pm no matter what. “Work messages work until tomorrow.”
- As a family they write the weekly menu together and batch-cook on Sundays.
- She teams up with a friend : gym together, twice a week.
No debate, no “just this once”.
A few months and a few adjustments later, she feels more energized and more in charge of her own life.
Nobody asks a vegetarian if they want a steak. The question simply does not show up anymore.
YOUR TURN … What are you still being asked (or asking yourself) every day that you should have settled already?”
Be brave.
